Sevgili arkadaşlarım, bazılarınızın müzikle ilişkisini kesmediğini biliyorum (Ercan halen bir koroda şarkı söylüyor bildiğim kadarıyla).
Ben maalesef iyi bir dinleyici olarak kaldım. Hayatın insanı sürüklediği yönde her zaman istediklerimizi yapamıyoruz. Ama sanırım bir etkisi olmuş bende, genetik mi dersiniz ne dersiniz bilmem. Büyük oğlum Berk İngiltere'de University of Surrey'de "Audio Media Engineering" okudu, yani bir tür Sound Engineering. Şimdi de İTÜ'nün Müzik İleri Araştırmaları Merkezi'nde (Maçka'da) Sound Engineering and Design Master'ı yapıyor. Aynı zamanda da gitar çalıyor, henüz grubu yok. Yani ailede bir müzisyen oldu sonunda.

Sentimental Journey grubunun Haziran 1982'de verdiği Boğaziçi Üniversitesi konser repertuarı konser programında şöyle belirtilmiş:
1) Sentimental Journey (1944). Besteciler Bud Green, Les Brown ve Ben Homer. İlk söyleyen Doris Day gibi görünüyor. Güzel bir piyano girişinden sonra son derece yumuşak söyleniyor.
Regina Carter'ın bu ilginç kemanlı enstrümantal versiyonunu seveceksiniz sanırım.

Sentimental Journey
("Levent'in Not Defteri" blogunda yayınlandığı şekliyle)
Daha önceki bir yazımda Boğaziçi Üniversitesi Müzik Kulübü bünyesinde kurduğumuz "Sentimental Journey" grubunun kuruluşunu anlatmıştım. 1982 yılında çalısmalarımız devam etmiş ve repertuarımızı iyice geliştirmiştik. Önce yalnızca "spiritual"lardan oluşan repertuar sonradan Türkiye için biraz fazla kısıtlı dinleyiciye hitap eder düşüncesiyle çeşitli caz ve popüler bestelerle zenginleştirilmişti. Şarkılardan birini grup adı olarak seçmiştik ve bu da genel çizgimize çok uymuştu. Vokal ağırlıklı, duygusal parçalar, içli spirituallardan oluşuyordu repertuar ve hep yoğun armoni üzerine dayalıydı. "God Bless the Child" gibi bazı parçalarda solist öne çıkıyor, diğerlerinde tüm vokaller dengeli kullanılıyordu.
Geleneksel olarak her grubun yaptığını yaptık ve Boğaziçi Üniversitesi Büyük Toplantı Salonu'nda (Robert College zamanındaki adıyla Albert Long Hall) ilk konserimizi verdik. Bendeki broşüre bakılırsa tarih 12 Haziran 1982. Yanılmıyorsam iki ayrı gece konser tekrarlandı. Albert Long Hall'un inanılmaz akustiğinde sanıyorum olduğumuzdan çok daha iyi bir performans sergiledik. Bu arada performansı kaydetmiştik ve bir kaset oluşturduk. Oldukça kötü bir kayıt olmasına rağmen iyi bir anı olarak hala saklıyorum.
Daha sonra repertuarın sınırlı bir kısmıyla (ve yanılmıyorsam grubun da bir kısmıyla) Amerikan Kültür Merkezi ve British Council (İngiliz Kültür Merkezi)'nde de konserler verdik.
Küçük çevremizin biraz dışına çıkmamızı sağlayan olay, yine ayrıntılarını bugün anımsamadığım bir şekilde ünlü Türk cazcısı Emin Fındıkoğlu ile tanışmamız ve onun aracılığıyla Bodrum Festivali'ne davet edilmemiz oldu (1960'larda meşhur Berklee Caz Akademisi'ni bitirdiğini yeni öğrendim). Eylül 1982'de düzenlenen (ve her yıl yenilenen) bu festivale davet edilince heyecanlandık tabii. Bu arada Feryal gruptan ayrılmıştı (ya da Bodrum'a gelemiyordu) Grubun kız elemanları hemen duruma el koydular ve grupsak uyumlu giysilerimiz olması gerektiğine karar verdiler. Erkeklere beyaz tişört ve mavi spor pantalon, kızlara da beyaz bluz ve kırmızı etekten oluşan şirin kıyafetler alındı. (Bkz. alttaki konser fotoğrafı. Ben en sağda ayaktakiyim)
Bodrum'da biraz etrafı gezdikten sonra Emin Fındıkoğlu'nun çaldığı bara gidip onu dinledik.
Ertesi gün festivalin yapıldığı Bodrum Kalesi'ne prova yapmaya gittik. Erol Evgin de festivale katılıyordu ve ekibiyle prova yapıyordu. Kendisine ayrılan süreyi çok aştığı halde gecikmeli olarak ayrılırken biraz alaycı bir tavırla ("haydi çocuklar gidelim cazcılar prova yapacakmış" demesi bende hayli antipati yaratmıştı, halbuki lise yıllarında çok sevdiğim bir pop müzik sanatçısıydı.
Festivaldeki konser epeyce ilgi çekti. Seyirci caza aşinaydı, bizim repertuarımız biraz değişik de olsa ilgilerini çekti.
Grup olarak bir süre daha birlikte çalıştık, ama ilk heyecan sona eriyordu, grubun tüm üyeleri kendi iş yaşamlarında gittikçe daha yoğun günler yaşıyorlardı ve maalesef 1982 sonu-1983 başında Sentimental Journey dağıldı. Tam 25 yıl olmuş... Aramızdan bir çoğu müziği bir meslek olarak devam ettirmedi ama en azından benim yaşamımda bu serüven 25 yıl sonra bile önemli bir yer tutmaya devam ediyor.
